Barbara J Smithson

Barbara J. Smithson of Gas City, Indiana passed away in her sister's home on Friday, July 21, 2023, after battling cancer. Barbara was born to Clyde Smithson and Loa (Behag) Cole in Marion, Indiana on August 23, 1956. She graduated from Mississinewa High School in 1974 and retired from the VA in Marion.

Barbara loved her nieces and nephews like they were her own. You could always find her cheering on their teams with a cooler full of Gatorade. She enjoyed taking them on trips to ball games and concerts. She loved the New York Yankees and country music. Barbara was a collector of many things including Barbies, horse statues, and precious moments. She loved her Chihuahuas, especially Diego.

Barbara is survived by her siblings Linda (Randy) Gould, Teresa (Roger) Holder, Marcie (Rob) Everhart, and Kim Crick; nieces and nephews Doug Testerman, Davin Spidel, Jeff Gould, Mindy McMain, Tawni Winters, Autum Estes, Josh Crick, Cody Crick, and Max Holder; great nieces and great nephews Malaki, Kannon, Sloane, Tempest, Frejya, Jayden, Jaci, Cohen, Creighton, Paige, Ethan and Carter and stepmother Saundra Smithson. She was preceded in death by her parents, sisters Mary Lou Newsom, Chery Crick, nephew Joey Holder and Great niece Callie Gould.

Lastly, the family would like to thank Compassus Home Hospice Team for the compassionate care they provided to Barbara.

Arrangements for Barbara have been entrusted to the College Park Chapel of Armes-Hunt Funeral Home at 4601 South Western Avenue Marion, Indiana 46953 where visitation will be held on Tuesday, July 25, 2023, from 11:00 A.M. to 1:00 P.M. A funeral service will follow at 1:00 P.M. with Mick Simpkins officiating. Burial will follow at Riverside Cemetery in Gas City. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Grant County Humane Society at 505 South Miller Avenue, Marion, Indiana 46953.
