Andrew C. "Andy" Presswood, 83, went to his heavenly home peacefully on Tuesday January 25, 2022 after a brief battle with brain cancer. He was at his home and surrounded by his family and his loving dog and granddog. Andy was an active community member who was always giving back. He was a member of the Fairmount United Methodist Church since 1969, where he served in many positions including the board of Trustee's and the Administrative Board. Andy also was active in the church choir. Andy loved pets and was a member of Paw Pals. He was a former member of the American Red Cross, a current member of the Grant County Cardinal Greenway Steering Committee and spent countless hours helping his beloved wife Susy and other members of the Greenway to maintain the trail. He was known to trail users as the "Rock Mover" or "Timber Man". Andy was also a former member of the Fairmount Park Board, the Fairmount Library Board and participated for numerous years as a member of the Easter Pageant Chorus. Andy served his country as a member of the US Army for 6 years, serving 2 of those years in Germany where he met Susy. He retired after 41 years of service from Fisher Body in Marion, Indiana. He also was always supportive of Susy's projects, especially her duties with the Civil Air Patrol where she is a Lieutenant Colonel. Andy was born in Tuckerman Arkansas to the late Orville and Myrl Presswood. He made his home in Fairmount for the last 53 years with his loving wife of 56 years, Susy. In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters who were his pride and joy - Barbara Brewer (Vacaville, CA) and Michelle (Bill) Waymire of Indianapolis, and his beloved American Staffordshire Terrier Sophie. Andy also leaves behind his granddaughter Katie Steele, her husband David and great grandson Riker Steele of Spokane Washington and five surviving sisters - Betty French (Walnut Ridge, AR), Mary (Victor) Sabella (Port St. Lucie, FL), Pat (Jerry) Peters (Benton, MO), Vickie (Steve) Smith (Swifton, AR) and Darlene (Kenneth) Pearson (Black Rock, AR) and numerous nieces and nephews. He also leaves behind two beautiful German Shepherd granddogs Hope and Zada. He was preceded in death by his sister Brenda (Charlie) Lenahan of Memphis (TN). Funeral arrangements for Andy have been entrusted to the Fairmount Chapel of Armes-Hunt Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 415 S. Main Street. The family will hold a private prayer service at the church followed by a short graveside service (open to friends and family) on Monday February 7, 2022 at 12:00 PM at Park Cemetery with Pastor Hysook Kim officiating. A celebration of life will also be held later this year at the Cardinal Greenway. The family has requested that in lieu of flowers, that memorial contributions be made to either the Fairmount United Methodist Church at 301 S. Walnut St. Fairmount, IN 46928 or the Cardinal Greenway by either a commitment of time or a monetary donation (checks payable to Cardinal Greenway Grant County Steering Committee) at First Famers Bank and Trust of Fairmount, IN through Carol Weigand.
