Steve Irvin Sharkey

Steve I. Sharkey, 65, passed away on Saturday, March 14, 2020, from injuries sustained in a car accident that occurred on his way to perform in the Shakespearean play, The Shakespeare Stealer at the Pulse Opera House. Steve was born on October 20, 1954, to the late Robert and Jo Ann Sharkey. He graduated from Lowell High School in 1974, then went on to earn his Bachelors of Science from Ball State University with a minor in Speech Communication and Theater in 1986. On June 14,1975 he married the love of his life, Jane Sharkey, who survives in Fairmount, Indiana. He was a member of Fairmount Methodist Church and worked in sales for many years. He will fondly be remembered as Shark in the Dark for his work as an announcer for WBAT. Steve was an award winning thespian and accomplished singer. He performed in over thirty plays with Anderson Main Stage, Marion Civic Theater, Muncie Civic Theater and Alexandria Civic Theater. Most notably he sang with Masterworks Chorale with whom he had the privilege of performing at Carnegie Hall. Steve also directed plays at the Marion Civic Theater, such as A Few Good Men, as well as Madison-Grant High School. He enjoyed playing the drums and was a lover of cinema. Steve was an avid Chicago Bears fan and never missed an opportunity to support the Ball State Cardinals. Steve is survived by his wife, Jane; sons, Jason Sharkey, Kennesaw, GA, and Andrew Sharkey, Fairmount; sisters, Debbie (Mark) Lohse, Haslet, TX and Lisa Sharkey, Lowell, IN; and many nieces and nephews. Arrangements for Steve have been entrusted to the Fairmount Chapel of Armes-Hunt Funeral Home and Cremation Services, where a visitation will be held on Thursday, March 19 from 2:30-4:30. A funeral service will follow with Pastor Darren Williams officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that contributions be made to the funeral home to help with final expenses.
