Ruth (Warren) Manley Higgs, 96, passed away on Thursday, June 6, 2019, at home surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Bath County, Kentucky, to the late Mattie Belle (Wells) and Alen Warren, the oldest of 11 children. Ruth attended school in Bath County, and in order to get to school each day, she had to cross a swinging bridge which she was terrified of. Her brother used to swing it back and forth to tease her. She moved to Marion in the late 1940s. Ruth was in the restaurant business until retirement, working her way from waitress to management of Cafe 37, Nobby, and Alices Restaurant. Many people believed she was Alice. She loved running a restaurant. Having an excellent work ethic, she believed there was no excuse to not be working. She had a passion of serving and cooking for the people of this community. Ruth was a devoted Christian and lived her life speaking of Jesus daily. She loved to work in her rose garden, especially spending that time with her son, Michael. She was an extremely devoted mother, and she dedicated her life to Mike. Ruth is survived by her beloved son, C. Michael Mike (Vicki) Manley, Marion; brother, Claude Top Warren, Marion; two half-sisters, Kathleen Craycraft and Effie Oakley, both of Ohio; two grandchildren, Lori Thomas, Marion, and Jeffrey (Carlabeth) Manley, Clearwater, FL; eight great-grandchildren, Ashley (Kyle) McKnight, Ft. Hood, TX, Amanda Manley, Gas City, Victor Manley, Largo, FL, Ryan Thomas, Converse, Max (Kayla) Thomas, Marion, Samantha Thomas, Boulder, CO, Christina Litwhiler, Clearwater, FL, and Danny Litwhiler, Colorado Springs, CO; and three great-great-grandchildren, Jayda Thomas, Charlee Thomas, and Aria McKnight. She will also be missed by her Westie, Parker. The family would like to extend a special thank you to her loved caregivers, Debra, Amy, Patricia, and Janita.
