Robert D. Southworth

Robert D. Southworth, 69, died Friday, August 2, 2019, in James Haley Memorial VA Hospital, Tampa, Florida. He was born in Marion, on June 4, 1950, the son of the late Dewey and Ila Maxine (Barton) Southworth. Robert graduated from Eastbrook High School in 1968 and served in the United States Marine Corps from 1970 1972. He married Susan Herring on May 13, 1972, in Upland. He had been a manager at Bills Foods, Hartford City, for many years. He enjoyed playing golf and loved the golf trips he took with his brother-in-law twice a year. For 23 years, he was involved with the Upland Baseball Softball League, serving as a coach, board member, and former president. Survivors include his wife of 47 years, Susie Southworth, Zephyrhills, FL; three sons: Douglas (Laronda) Southworth, Clayton; Jerry (Erin) Southworth, Noblesville; and Gary (Kristen) Southworth, Kokomo; six grandchildren: Levi, Abby, Jake, Alayna, Izzy, and Ian; two sisters: Karen (Jim) Obrien,Bloomington; and Ellen Southworth, Bloomington; a brother: Ted Southworth, Muncie; father-in-law: Robert Herring, Upland; brother-in-law: David (Cheryl) Herring, Hamilton; and sister-in-law: Carol Herring, Poneto; several nieces and nephews; and a honorary son: Harold (Missy) Coates, Marion. He was preceded in death by brothers, Don and Andrew Southworth, and a brother-in-law, Mike Herring. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Jones-Smith Chapel of Armes-Hunt Funeral Home Cremation Services, where a visitation will be held on Monday, August 19, 2019 from 10 am 1pm. A graveside service and interment with military honors will follow at 2:00 pm at the Marion National Cemetery, Marion.
