Richard "Dick" V. Winters, 85, passed away on Monday, March 27, 2023, in Anderson. Dick was born on November 22, 1937, in Grant County, to the late Fred and Edna (Mossburg) Winters. He graduated from Marion High School, class of 1955. Dick married the love of his life, the late Carolyn S. Southgate, on August 16, 1958. He was a pipe fitter for 27 years at Anaconda Wire & Cable Company/Cablec, in Marion.
Dick was very active in church and in children's ministry, he taught a boys class on Wednesdays, drove the church bus, and ran sound. He attended Union Chapel and then Blackford Baptist.
Dick was a very dedicated person. He would do anything for anyone, he was a jokester, he was lighthearted, and never complained about anything. He will be missed dearly by his family. Dick was an EMT at the Matthews Fire Department for over 25 years. He was the Deputy Marshall in Matthews, and was a Grant County Sheriff reserve. He loved serving the Lord and his community. Dick loved his grandchildren, babies, and animals. He enjoyed fishing, going to flea markets and rummage sales, traveling, camping, and playing cards.
Dick is survived by his children, Cindy (Roger) Young, Alexandria; Vaughn (Andrea) Winters, Hartford City; and Melody (Mike) Pearson, Sweetser; grandchildren, Richard "David" (Melissa) Pernell, Anderson; Elrie (Rose Pearman) Ferguson, Anderson; Jennifer Ferguson-Jeffries, Marion; William "Skyler" Coleman, AZ; Steven (Adrienne Waterman) Coleman, Gas City; Kathy (Josh) Hill, Hartford City; and Michael Winters, Hartford City; six great-grandchildren; brother, Jim (Ruth) Winters, Marion; sister, Helen Snider, NC; sister-in-law, Patty Southgate; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by, his parents, wife, four sisters, and 5 brothers.
Arrangements for Dick have been entrusted to the Jones-Smith Chapel of Armes-Hunt Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 259 North Main Street, Upland, Indiana, where a visitation will be held on Tuesday, April 4, 2023, from 4:00 - 7:00 P.M. Then on Wednesday, April 5, 2023, there will be a funeral beginning at 1:00 P.M., with Pastor Bill Sparks officiating. Burial will immediately follow at Estates of Serenity, Marion.
Memorial contributions may be made in honor of Dick to Gilead Ministries, at 212 North Baldwin Avenue, Marion, Indiana 46952.
