December 14, 1929 — December 28, 2019

Bonetha M. Smith, 90, passed away at home on Saturday, December 28, 2019. Bonetha was born on December 14, 1929, at home in Van Buren, to the late Wilbur and Pearl James. She graduated from Jefferson High School in Upland in 1947, and then received her Associates in Accounting from Indiana Business College. She worked as a payroll clerk for GenCorp for 30 years, retiring in 1997. She faithfully attended Sweetser Wesleyan Church for over 50 years, and only stopped attending when dementia set in. A great seamstress, when her children were younger, she would make their clothes. She also enjoyed working on puzzles and reading. Bonetha is missed by her five children, Paul Smith, Swayzee, Leland (Joyce) Smith, Marion, Vicki Manley, Marion, Nila (Steve) Bruzas, Avon, and Arna Smith, Marion; four grandchildren, Leland (Kathy) Smith, Jr, Cheryl (Jason) Pierce, Michael Manley, and Anna (Evan) Lowe; and three great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Wilbur and Pearl, as well as three sisters, Doris Case, Margret Shaffer, and Mildred Lakin. Arrangements for Bonetha have been entrusted to the College Park Chapel of Armes-Hunt Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 4601 South Western Avenue, Marion, Indiana 46953. A graveside service will be held at Van Buren Cemetery on Thursday, January 2, 2020, at 10:00 a.m. with Pastor Mick Simpkins officiating.
